This episode tells the story of a unique incident during the Great Patriotic War (summer 1942). Surrounded after a battle near the village of Valuyki (southern Belgorod Oblast), the 3rd Howitzer Battery of the 43rd Guards Artillery Regiment was ordered to dump gasoline (giving it to a mobile detachment), destroy their equipment, and break out on foot to Rostov. But the unit's commander, Roman Petrovich Agrikov, couldn't bring himself to destroy the four brand-new 122mm howitzers, model 1938. At a personnel meeting, they decided, in defiance of orders, to save the equipment and break through to their own side. First to Rostov, and then to Stalingrad. For 18 long days, with virtually no food or fuel (which they had to obtain from the enemy), they fought their way through enemy lines. They then used every means necessary to achieve their goal: moving along country roads during the day, moving at night in German columns, and in some cases even fighting for a breakthrough. Ultimately, the battery reached its own side, saving many other encircled and wounded soldiers in the process. This entire feat was recounted in a book published in a very limited print run in 1999 – "On the Brink of the Incredible: Frontline Facts" by R. P. Agrikov. The series will be divided into several parts, compiled into a single playlist. Enjoy watching. _______________________________________________________________
