P.S. A file for cleaning is only used with a copper soldering iron tip. THAT'S THE RIGHT WAY. "Eternal" non-burning tips are cool, but they require a soldering iron with a thermostat (otherwise they burn and don't "wet" the tin), which will cost a pretty penny (unlike a regular one with a copper tip).
A simpler and cheaper option for household use is a soldering iron with a copper tip.
