La Rinconada I Chasing The Peruvian High
High above the clouds at 5,100 meters (nearly 17,000ft,) La Rinconada is the highest inhabited place on Earth. Life here is a constant struggle, with only 50% of the oxygen found at sea level. This mine scorched land is as unforgiving as it is unique.
Yet, around 50,000 people call this place home—living amidst piles of trash and constant danger. They endure these extreme conditions for one reason: gold. In this remote, harsh world, the promise of wealth draws dreamers and survivors alike.
