Why Most F1 Cars are Black🧐?
Formula 1 teams will soon be launching their 2024 car liveries.
And what you're going to realise is a large part of these cars are just black.
But this isn't paint, it's actually... nothing.
This is completely exposed carbon fibre, and it's intentional.
The paint on an f1 car can weigh up to 6 kilos,
In F1, 6kgs is worth around.2 seconds per lap. If you had a 50 lap race, that's 10 complete seconds added to your overall time.
When you're spending over a quarter billion dollars every year, you better maximise every chance you get. Unless you're Ferrari.
Mercedes are called the silver arrows for the same reason.
Back in the day, Mercedes went over the maximum weight limit by 1kg. They scraped off their white patriotic paint, exposing the silver aluminium below.
When the car proved victorious, they gave it the name the Silver Arrow.
Gone are the days where we'd see liveries like this, this, or even this.
