MISIS was established in 1918 and today in 2021 intends to strengthen its leadership positions in a number of areas, including material sciences, metallurgy and mining, as well as strongly strengthen its presence in bio materials, nano- and IT-technologies.. The university has shown significant growth in the QS World University Rankings and in the QS World University Rankings by Subject in three areas: “Materials Science”, “Physics”, “Mechanical Engineering”. NUST MISIS has also entered the ARWU-2018 Ranking and the TOP-100 of the ARWU Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in two directions: Metallurgical Engineering and Mining & Mineral Engineering.
It has 30 research centers and laboratories as well as 3 engineering centers with modern research equipment. The University provides 9 English-medium Master’s programs in Physics, Material Science and Nanotechnologies. In 2020 Sberbank and MISIS signed a cooperation agreement and approved a roadmap until 2024. The agreement provides for the joint education of specialists on the bachelor’s and master’s programs, the opening of a service robotics laboratory based on the university infrastructure, and the conduct of joint scientific research.
