Give your VOIP phones their own WiFi network
People run into VOIP phone problems of all sorts, but the easiest and most fixable one comes from creating a private WiFi network just for the phones and giving it a fixed amount of bandwidth that other services cannot take from.
To do this, you either need what is called a VLAN or QoS capability.
VLAN means Virtual Local Area Network. Some routers have this capability, as do switches.
QoS means Quality of Service. QoS is generally just available on specific switches.
If you have a firewall set up, firewall rules may also have to be set to best optimize things.
Doing all of this means that if someone on your network is watching videos, or doing videoconferencing, or if you just have less available bandwidth in general, that it prioritizes your VOIP phones and ensures a quality experience there, in a medium that matters a lot to many businesses.
