In the earlier video I used the Blender shader editor to change the alpha value of an image whilst keeping the transparency intact. In this I go further than that using a gradient texture which is applied using simple maths in the Blender Shader editor to create a more advanced effect.
The effect that I wanted to achieve is that of the advent calendar door being opened to reveal another image underneath. This is similar to having a page turned in a book to reveal the next page. I also changed the transparency of the image to make it go from transparent to opaque.
This works by using a gradient image which is created in black and white with different grey levels between. There is a value which is increased in keyframes which is applied against the texture to reveal the image underneath. I used a binary on/off to ensure that the edge is sharp.
Although this is a follow on from my earlier videos it does go through the whole process so it can also be used as a standalone tutorial in how to create 2D animations in blender with special effects through the shader editor.

I've also got a webpage showing these are more videos here: http://www.penguintutor.com/news/blen... video is thanks to @GrinDeg suggesting more 2D animations in blender. If anyone has some suggestions for other videos please leave them in the comments.
