Zantac (Ranitidine) Recall and Cancer Lawsuit
In April 2020, the FDA recalled all Zantac (ranitidine) products due to the presence of cancer-causing substances. Zantac is believed to increase the likelihood of certain cancers in humans such as stomach cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, and others.

The FDA determined that Zantac (ranitidine) may be contaminated with N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). NDMA is a probable carcinogen (meaning that it could cause cancer). While NDMA is thought to be harmless at low levels, higher levels are believed to lead to increased risk of cancer in humans.
It is further believed that the level of NDMA in Zantac can increase over time even under normal storage conditions. The Veteran community is especially affected by this recall. A large number of Veterans took Zantac to manage chronic heartburn caused by conditions prevalent among the Veteran community, such as GERD and obesity.
