Beautiful, very powerful, and affordable, the Honor 9X Pro boasts dreamlike technical specifications for a low price. As such, it competes with Xiaomi in its preferred territory. Add to that a very high-quality camera sensor and amazing computing capabilities, and this phone becomes a future bestseller.
However, there is a downside to my review.
The Honor 9X Pro is an incredibly affordable smartphone aimed at those looking for excellent hardware without the typically high price tag. Looking at the specs, it almost seems too good to be true: you get a beautiful display, plenty of storage, a 48MP camera, a large battery, and a fairly fast processor for just €249.
But there's a catch: the Honor 9X Pro doesn't come with any Google apps or services, such as YouTube or Google Maps. This makes it very difficult to recommend to the vast majority of buyers, especially when there are many similarly priced smartphones on the market with full access to the Play Store and Google's vast array of apps.
Still, if you don't mind living without Google apps and are happy to download APK files for others not available on the App Gallery, you won't be disappointed with this otherwise well-performing phone.
Performance and Battery Life
These two areas are the Honor 9X Pro's strong points. The in-house Kirin 810 chipset powers the smartphone, paired with 6GB of RAM and an impressive 256GB of storage. The smartphone's software is very responsive thanks to the aforementioned chipset, and mobile gaming wasn't a problem either. The latter is powered by Honor's GPU Turbo 3.0 software, which improves system performance and reduces SoC power consumption by 10% when gaming.
The 4000mAh battery lets you get the most out of the Honor 9X Pro on a single charge. It easily lasts a full day with normal use and could likely extend to 48 hours if you're a light user.
