The amplitude of a wave is related to its intensity. Intensity is proportional to amplitude squared. I'll go through an example question from Isaac Physics (link below).

Here's the question:
Two coherent waves of intensities 𝐼 and 2𝐼 meet in phase at a point. For these waves 𝐼∝𝐴^2, where 𝐴 is the amplitude. What is the intensity of the resulting wave at that point? Give your answer in terms of I.
