Sony SUED Again!
French regulator fines Sony over third-party controller practices | VGC (videogameschronicle.com)
Sony has been fined 13.5 million euros by France’s antitrust regulator,
Sony implemented technical measures in 2015 to combat counterfeiting, which inadvertently affected the proper functioning of third-party controllers, making them disconnect during system updates.
Secondly, it said that rival companies were impeded from joining PlayStation’s licensing program, with access only granted through Sony’s partnership program.
Sony refused to communicate the program access criteria to manufacturers upon request, claiming that the criteria were applied at Sony’s discretion.
Sony is catching a lot of strays lately. The last lawsuit is in the UK and is built around the idea that by having just one storefront on the PS5 and taking 30% of every purchase, sony is forcing developers to passs that fee onto consumers.
They also lost the activision deal last year and while this might seem bad on the surface, I see it as a situation where they’re the company at the top and that’s going to result in people coming after them.
Sony Skipping PS5 for Horizon MMO?
Job Listing Indicates Horizon MMO Still in Development, Just Not for PS5 | Push Square
The first important fact is that the game is listed on the profile of a developer with a logo reading 'Skyline Project.'
A domain has been registered for something called 'Land of Salvation' by NCSoft, suggesting that that could be the name for this 'Project Skyline' Horizon MMO.
The MMO is being made on Unreal Engine 5 and has been in development since 2021. The last staff check-in was in September 2023 when 140 employees were working on 'Project Skyline.' Apparently the game is expected around late 2024 or 2025.
The game might be released on PC and mobile, but not PS5.
