You don’t need to get to the inner workings of your industrial centrifugal fan every day, but when you do, split housings can make life a lot easier. Read on to learn why.
With all their moving parts, industrial fan and blower maintenance is always top of mind. Eventually, you’re going to have to get in there to work on the wheel and shaft. In some applications, that can be near impossible. If your fan and ductwork is situated without adequate space to get into the access doors, split housings could be the answer. Looking at a horizontal split in the housing. So this fan has a split housing where the bottom half of the housing comes together with the top half of the housing, it’s bolted down and there’s a gasket here between the two flanges.
So why would you split the housing? In this case, if you were to put this fan in the field and you did not have a split housing, you have an access door right here, and an access door right here, and these are your point of entries into the fan to work on it. However, in the case that you maybe need to remove a wheel and shaft, without this split, you’re going to find yourself in a pretty difficult situation in the field.
With the split, you’re able to remove your ductwork off the top, remove all of these bolts, lift this straight up, out, and access your wheel and shaft, at which point you can remove them from the housing, work on them, replace them, that’s the place of a horizontal split.
