Hi everyone! This is Top 3D Shop, and in this video, we will tell you about the Original Prusa XL multifilament FDM printer.
The Prusa XL is a 3D printer with CoreXY kinematics for creating plastic parts up to 36 centimeters or 14 inches in size. A unique feature of the device is the proprietary automatic calibration system setting the base for the perfect first layer and an array of trusted design solutions that simplify the operation process. The optional five independent printheads system makes the device one of the most sought-after FDM machines capable of printing with several filaments at once.
The XL model is equipped with an in-house developed cycloidal extruder with a larger feed gear. The Nextruder allows for quick nozzle changes and includes an automatic first layer calibration system with no intervention required from the user.
The Original Prusa XL print bed has a modular design with sixteen small segments powered by individual heaters instead of one large heated bed, which is vulnerable to temperature deformations. When printing small objects, only a part of the active heaters are engaged, also gearing up the energy efficiency of the 3D printer. The quick-release magnetized bed cover speeds up and simplifies the removal of the printed parts from the bed surface.
Prusa engineers have developed an optional quick printhead swap system specifically for the Prusa XL model. After the upgrade, you get access to engage up to five printheads in a single print session. The high-precision system guarantees seamless extruder change in real-time, eliminating manual calibration. The option can be a gamechanger for users who need to use multiple filaments and quickly switch to printing with dissolvable supports or embark on multi-color products.
The design of the optional extruder swap system allows for gradual upgrade by installing one extruder at a time, and adding separate printheads later if necessary, with a maximum of five print heads on a single Prusa XL 3D printer.
The list of notable practical features of the Prusa XL also includes a custom 32-bit motherboard with an expansion slot, a power outage recovery system, an additional thermal block thermistor, powerful coolers with speed control, easy access connector system, optional color display, and online video monitoring.
Files are prepared for printing in the proprietary multiplatform PrusaSlicer software, offering a wide range of tools for managing three-dimensional models for the printing process.
The Original Prusa XL supports a wide range of filaments, from the most common ABS, PLA, HIPS and PETG to soluble and exotic filaments containing special additives.
