5 submissions beginners should know by the time they get promoted to blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

1. Triangle Choke:
Setup:
Control Posture: Start from the guard position, controlling your opponent's posture by gripping their collar and controlling one arm.
Create an Opening: Use your legs to break down their posture and create an opening for one arm to come across their neck.
Execution:
Insert Leg: Pass one leg over their shoulder and under the other arm, creating a triangle with your legs.
Adjust Position: Tighten the triangle by adjusting your angle and pulling their head down, ensuring their trapped arm is across their neck.
Complete the Choke: Secure the triangle by locking your foot under your knee and pulling their head down while squeezing your thighs.

2. Armbar:
Setup:
Secure the Arm: Begin in the guard position and control one of your opponent's arms, pulling it across your body.
Execution:
Secure the Arm: Hold their wrist with one hand and control their triceps with your other hand.
Create Angle: Open your guard and swing one leg over their face while turning your hips, creating a perpendicular angle.
Lock the Arm: Clamp your thighs around their head and arm while extending your hips, hyperextending their arm.

3. Americana:
Setup:
Control Position: Start from side control, ensuring your chest is on your opponent's chest, and control one of their arms.
Execution:
Isolate the Arm: Use your body weight to pin their trapped arm to the mat.
Grip Transition: Slide your hand from their wrist to their elbow while maintaining control.
Americana Grip: Grip your own wrist, forming a figure-four with their arm.

4. Kimura:
Setup:
Secure the Arm: Begin in side control, control your opponent's arm, and isolate it from their body.
Execution:
Grip Transition: Slide your hand from their wrist to their elbow, trapping their arm.
Secure the Kimura Grip: With one hand on their wrist and the other on their elbow, grip your own wrist.
Application: Apply pressure by lifting their arm and turning their wrist, targeting the shoulder joint.

5. Rear Naked Choke:
Setup:
Back Control: Secure your opponent's back from a seated position with hooks in and chest-to-back control.
Execution:
Secure the Grip: Slide one arm under their chin while the other arm goes over their shoulder.
Lock the Rear Naked Choke: Lock your hands together, ensuring your choking arm's bicep is against their neck and your other hand supports the back of their head.
Squeeze and Finish: Apply steady pressure, squeezing your elbows together, and lift your chest to complete the choke.
Remember, these submissions require careful practice to avoid injury, and it's essential to be aware of your training partner's well-being. Always practice under the supervision of a qualified instructor and prioritize safety during training.
