Emory University professor Elizabeth Fox-Genovese argued with compelling logic that rather a village it takes a family to raise a child, and family means two parents. Fox-Genovese spoke to the Public Policy Foundation on April 24, 1996. During her early professional life Fox-Genovese was regarded as a feminist but in later years she challenged and criticized what she described as "radical, upscale feminism." She believed rights gained by women were consistent and compatible with strong families. As a researcher and author, she wrote extensively about the history of women in the Old South. Fox-Genovese joined the Emory University faculty in 1986. She died in 2007 in Atlanta.
