🌼 Nirjala Ekadashi – Key Points
Date & Timing:
Falls on the Ekadashi (11th day) of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the month of Jyeshtha (May-June).
In 2025, it will be observed on Wednesday, June 4 (subject to lunar calendar changes).
Meaning of 'Nirjala':
"Nirjala" means without water.
On this day, devotees observe strict fasting without food or water, making it the most austere Ekadashi.
Significance:
Considered the most powerful and rewarding of all 24 Ekadashis.
Observing Nirjala Ekadashi is believed to give the spiritual benefits of observing all Ekadashis in the year.
Mythological Importance:
Associated with Bhima, the second Pandava, who couldn’t fast on other Ekadashis due to hunger.
Sage Vyasa advised him to observe just one – Nirjala Ekadashi – with complete austerity, which would equal all other Ekadashis.
Rituals:
No food or water from sunrise to next day’s sunrise (Dwadashi).
Prayers, Vishnu Puja, and reading of Ekadashi Vrat Katha.
Some devotees do Jagran (stay awake all night) singing bhajans and kirtans.
Spiritual Benefits:
Removes past sins and grants moksha (liberation).
Brings health, prosperity, and the blessings of Lord Vishnu.
Charity & Good Deeds:
Devotees often donate water, food, clothes, and cooling items to the needy due to summer heat.
Donating a water pot or fan is considered especially auspicious.
Who Can Observe:
While strict fasting is recommended, those with health issues may observe a partial fast or fruit diet.
Intention and devotion matter more than just the ritual.
