Hello everyone!
In this video, we'll be finishing walls with Airslate natural slate stone veneer from Lantic Colonial. It's 3 mm thick, with a resin and fiberglass backing, and comes in a 1200 x 2400 mm format. This flexible stone combines high stability, flexibility, and strength.
This highly versatile product, lightweight and flexible stone veneer, is ideal for finishing walls in large rooms and spaces.
During the installation process, we'll show you how to cut this material, how to prepare the base for laying the stone veneer, which adhesive to choose, how to select the right protective compound, and how to work with the material in general.
Honestly, at first glance, it doesn't seem that difficult. Once we started working, it became clear that the surface texture varies, the thickness fluctuates, and joining the pieces of stone together without gaps is quite challenging. We were able to cut the sheet so that the factory cut was visible, while the edge we sawed was recessed into the frame, hidden from view. This material is cut with an angle grinder and a stone saw blade; any unevenness in the cut can be smoothed with fine sandpaper. When working with Air slate, the rule is "measure seven times, cut once." Stone costs from 6,000 rubles per square meter, and a sheet is almost 3 meters long, or 18,000 rubles. This material should only be glued with a two-component adhesive, as cement-based adhesives do not adhere to epoxy resin and fiberglass mesh. Polyurethane adhesives are primarily from imported manufacturers, such as Basf, Kerakoll, and Mapei. We used Keralastic T, manufactured by Mapei. Adhesive consumption is approximately 2-2.5 kg per square meter, depending on the substrate. The adhesive isn't easy to work with; be prepared to apply it with force, as it's very viscous and sticky, so to speak. After applying the adhesive to the entire surface, a pre-cut sheet is installed, then smoothed with a plastic spatula or rolled with a roller. We seal the edges of the stone with masking tape to prevent any adhesive from getting on the material. If any adhesive gets on the surface, remove it immediately; otherwise, once it has hardened, cleaning will be impossible.
