[Munich] Firefighting Convoy Responding!
Captured here is Fire Station No. 4 (Schwabing) of the Munich Fire Department. Station 4 is a state of the art facility, which intigrates the emergency dispatch center for the city of Munich, a portion of the Munich volunteer fire department and the civil protection/ disaster response agency. The building also accomodates machine shops, living quaters, sports and receational rooms as well as various offics spaces. The station provides 17 vehicle spots for the fire department, 12 additional spots for the vounteer division and 18 spots for vehicles of the civil protection agency.
Another interesting feature of this fire station is a large art project called "Skala" by German artist Gunda Förster, which is installed along one of the outside corners of the building. The artwork is made up of 10 LED light panels ascending along the corner and creating a gradient in various shades of red, from a light crimson to a dark red. The LED panels are illuminated in accordance with the number of emergency calls and radio communication coming into the dispatch center. The bigger the call volume the higher the LED scale moves.
In this video you can see paramedics responding to a medical call in a fire department ambulance, which is followed by a fire alarm call for the so-called 'firefighting convoy' (Löschzug in German). The convoy is made up of a battalion chief, two rescue engines, a turntable ladder and an ambulance.
