Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Split Cell Diagonally and Display Two Numbers In One Excel Cell.
Welcome back to another episode of MrExcel's Learn-XL, where we tackle all your Excel questions and challenges. In today's video, we're going to address a unique request from one of our viewers, Kathy in Milwaukee. Her manager has asked for a cell to be split diagonally with two values on either side. Sounds like a crazy request, right? Well, let's see how we can make it work.
Kathy was able to use the Format Cells option and add a diagonal border to the cell. This allowed her to enter one value, such as 244, on the right side of the diagonal. But the challenge was how to enter a value on the left side of the diagonal. Well, we have a couple of tricks up our sleeve to make this happen.
First, we'll enter the value 33 on the left side of the diagonal. Then, we'll use the shortcut Alt+ENTER to add a line break and create some space. Next, we'll add a few spaces to move the value 44 to the right side of the diagonal. You may need to play around with the number of spaces to get the desired effect. We can also adjust the row height to make the cell look more balanced.
However, there is one major drawback to this method. The cell is now just a text cell and we won't be able to perform any mathematical operations on the values. So, if your manager is okay with just seeing the numbers 33 and 44 without any calculations, then this method could work for you. But if you need to perform any calculations, you'll have to use some advanced left and right commands.
In conclusion, splitting a cell diagonally is definitely a unique and tricky request. But with the help of a few tricks, we can make it happen. Just remember that this method will turn the cell into a text cell, so it may not be suitable for all situations.
