In this video I will teach you how to make a pinch transition, a melt transition, and a warp slide transition in DaVinci Resolve. All of these are made using the displace node and certain displacement maps you can make in Resolve.
(Y'all like how my mic peaks on my S's and P's? lol)

Partial Script: today I’m going to be showing you how to make these warp slash displacement transitions I figured out how to make. These effects are a little tricky to understand so I suggest watching my AMV basics tutorial to get a basic understanding, link is in the description. The node we are going to be using today is the displace node. The displace node uses the luminance values of an image to distort your footage. So in Resolve, wherever on your displacement image or your displacement map that the image is white, your footage will be distorted by a certain value depending on how white the pixel is. It is confusing to comprehend but one you follow my steps then you may hopefully understand. First we are going to start off with the warp slide transition. To start off we are going to add our adjustment clip on top of both of our clips we want to put a transition on. Once we go into the fusion page we are going to add a displace node to our graph and in our inspector we are going to change the type to X and Y. Then we are going to add a background node and connect it to the green input of our displacement node. On the background node you are going to go down to type and hit gradient. Then you’ll have this black and white picture appear which will be your displacement map. Once you have this then go back to viewing your media out and click on the displace node. Here we are going to keyframe the x refraction at the beginning of your clip, right before the clip changes, and then the first frame after your clip changes. Then you will go back to your second keyframe and adjust the value to be around -0.7 to -0.4 depending on what you like. Then you are going to add another displace node and change the type to X and Y. For your displacement map you are going to copy the same map you had but change the white values to black and the black values to white. Here I just did it with an invert color node. Then on your second displacement node you are going to key frame at the end of the first clip, the start of the new clip, and the end of the whole clip. At your second keyframe you are going to change the value to any positive value between 0.4 and 0.7. Then you will have something that looks like this. From here we are going to edit our spline graph. Go up to your spline tab and hit it. Turn on your first displace node to show the graph of the x refraction and highlight all the nodes and hit s or smooth them. Then change the graph to make an ease in curve. A good tip that I didn’t learn until recently is if you hold control and move one of the handle bars of the key frame then only that side of the graph will be affected so definitely use that when adjusting your spline graphs. Then on the second displace we are going to change the x refraction graph to an ease out curve. Then you will have this. Lastly on both of our displace nodes we are going to turn on motion blur and change the values. Then there you have your slide warp. For the melt transition we are going to start off the same way. Add your adjustment clip and your displace node. This time instead of using a background we are going to use a fast noise node and connect it to the displace. You can click it and drag it from right here onto the graph.
