Analysis of variance means to find out the cause of variation in the data. The total variation in any set of numerical data of an experiment is due to
(i) Assignable causes (ii) Unassignable / Chance causes.
Variation in the data due to
assignable causes can be detected, measured and controlled
chance causes is not in the control of human being and cannot be traced or found out separately.
