First new hospital in decades comes to Gaza’s rescue
After years of delay, the first new hospital in over a decade has opened its doors to patients in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian territory ruled by Hamas.
The Indonesia Hospital, paid for by a non-government organisation based in Jakarta, opened six months ago. The 110-bed facility offers specialist care in orthopedics and emergency surgery.
Gaza's healthcare system is on the verge of collapse and the healthy ministry has blamed a shortage of hospitals, as well as Israel and Egypt's blockade of the Palestinian territory, for the crisis.
