Is it a love/hate relationship? What are your feelings on the adder, one of the most iconic and talked about creatures on the Mendip Hills?
Let's get to know the adder, the next in our series of films about the Champion Species of the Mendip Hills National Landscape. Mike Dilger talks to John Dickson of the Reptile and Amphibian Group Somerset about this incredible animal.
The Champion Species are; adder, greater horseshoe bat, Cheddar pink, dormouse, black oil beetle, water vole, small pearl bordered fritillary and skylark. What makes them champions? They’re all threatened and vulnerable to disappearing from our lives. They all tell us how good, or not, the areas are where they live. And, they’re all quirky, conversation-starters!
Wouldn't it be great if the adder could travel safely to-and-from the 31 sites in the Mendip super National Nature Reserve? Connecting these special sites along the south facing slopes via walls and hedges is how we'll help nature recover.
