SILS Alum Dani Cook (MSLS '13), the Associate Librarian for Learning and User Experience at the UC San Diego Library, presents the next SILS Alumni Lecture.

Lecture Title: Person-Centered Management: A Framework for Libraries

About the lecture: The pandemic brought to light many pre-existing challenges for libraries, ranging from unfunded mandates to provide community services to toxic management practices. This talk will address how this is a critical moment for libraries to reflect on the importance of strong and empathetic management, which is too often elided in favor of “leadership.” Foundational concepts from learner-centered teaching can be applied to the management context and help libraries to succeed in rapidly changing and hybrid environments.
