Now that you learned how to install the Anaconda Navigator distribution platform in Episode 2, you are ready to write you first line of Python code.

As explained in the previous episode, launching Anaconda gives you the choice between various working environments in which to deploy the Python computer language. For Excel users with limited programming experience, I strongly recommend selecting the Spyder working environment because it is both robust and easy to use.

In this episode, you learn:

How to launch Spyder from Anaconda.

The basics of the Spyder interface, including the "Editor" pane where you type your Python code and the "Console" pane where any results are displayed. (This Console pane is also where error statements are printed to help you debug any errors.)

How to write your first Python command known as a "function". In this case, you will learn how to use the print() function which displays information on the Console pane.

Finally, you will learn how to execute your very first line of code within the Spyder working environment.

Hosted by author John Wengler, the "Automate Excel with Python" podcast helps you save time and stay relevant by learning how to automate your spreadsheet processes. Based on John's book of same name, the first twelve seasons of this podcast cover the basics for converting your daily grind into one-click workflows. While not a requirement to learn from these videos, John’s book serves as terrific companion for deeper dives into topics not covered by the podcast.
