5 Broken Support Heroes in 7.40 Meta
Yeah, Lich really is a no-brainer when it comes to strong supports. He works so well with so many popular Position 1 carries during the laning stage like Ursa, Anti-Mage, Lifeatealer. Even post-laning stage with heroes like Morphling and Windranger who kinda wanna stay near their enemies so their damage goes through but also that kinda of pseudo-closeness in range means that Lich’s Frost Shield provides them with the protection they need but also the slow that is just so annoying to deal with as the enemy. Don’t forget that by level 10, with his level 10 talent, Lich grants 70% damage reduction from Frost Shield to his ally and now that talents don’t take a skill point, you can both max out Frost Shield and get the talent at level 10 rather than at level 11. This also helps with pushing waves back out without needing Lich to commit in the lane.
Disruptor seems like an odd pick among a selection of supports where I’m recommending big damage-dealers who can harass like crazy during laning but it’s actually not that absurd because Disruptor is built on one main aspect: control. A lot of popular Carry heroes just simply lack control in the game, instead relying on Offlaners and supports to handle that aspect of the match so they can just focus on punishing enemies that are caught out.
Don’t overlook Jakiro, the hero is a monster in the lane right now because his Twin Terror facet is just annoying to play against. The extra damage on harass helps with outharassing enemy supports. What’s more is that Jakiro players are opting for Liquid Fire when wanting to harass an enemy or the slow from Liquid Frost to enable Jakiro’s lane partner to then secure the kill. By level 2, 3, the hero has points in Liquid Fire and Dual Breath for an amplified slow, repeated damage and Jakiro’s auto-attack follow-through.
The nerfs to Snapfire are pretty justified because from laning stage to team-fights, the hero had no real downsides. With just a single point in Lil’ Shredder, Snapfire was most out-ranging popular supports like Lion and Disruptor who could not trade with her whatsoever. From there on, the Full Bore facet makes playing Snapfire incredibly comfortable to play and getting a point in her cookie at level 4 means she enables a lot of popular Pos 3 Offlaners to secure early lane kills. Heroes like Slardar, Axe, Centaur and Legion Commander were absolutely loving the Cookie to help with initiation, the Lil’ Shredder to drop the target’s armor and the Full Bore Scatterblast for an insane long-range nuke.
Hoodwink losing an extra stack of Scurry as a level 10 talent is not that bad considering the +50 Bushwack damage that came in patch 7.40 makes the hero even more annoying to deal in the mid-game. The Go Nuts facet means that Hoodwink gains an extreme level of comfort with range, even when nerfed and can reasonably stack the Triangle camps with Scurry movement speed and the extra attack range. What’s more is that Hoodwink, like a lot of other heroes, can also wipe creep waves and push the lanes out fast. What’s more is Hoodwink’s Aghs Shard is his crown jewel where amplifying incoming spell damage by 20% is massive and synergistic with your offlaners when they come online.
