SQL Basics Tutorial - In only 10 Minutes
This special Tec2Check video explains the basics about SQL in 10 Minutes. It shows how SQL works, how to query data with simple select statements, conditional statements and filters.
To follow the tutorial, execute the following steps:
1. Download and install PHP-MyAdmin via https://www.phpmyadmin.net
2. After the successful installation, you should see a new application called "XAMPP" on your desktop
3. Go to the tab "Manage servers" and start both the SQL database, as well as the Apache Web Server by clicking on them and selecting "Start"
4. It might take some seconds - you should then see both with the status "Running"
5. Go back to the "Welcome" tab and select "Go to Application"
6. This will open a page in your web browser
7. On the upper right-hand corner, select "PHPMyAdmin"
8. A new site will open
9. Download the sample data used in the video via https://dev.mysql.com/doc/index-other... (scroll down a bit till you see the section called "example databases" - it is the fourth entry from above) - make sure to download the ZIP file
10. Go back to the browser window displaying your database (step 8)
11. Now go to "import" and insert the data of the downloaded ZIP file named "sakila-schema.sql"
12. Ignore the errors - you should be able to see the database on the left hand side of the screen now
