In this video I show how to insert and georeference high-resolution aerial imagery into Revit as a background for your site plan. For this workflow you will need aerial imagery, a known world coordinate system or relative coordinates, and the image resolution in meters/pixel. Even if you don't have all the data this process can be adapted to different situations using the same concept.

This can be applied to online aerial and satellite imagery services as well as ad-hoc aerial imagery that you may have taken for your project. In this video I go through the process of downloading images from Nearmap.com. In the video I mention the Ground Sampling Distance (GSD), although in reality I used a much simpler formula. I did however used the same principle. The ground sample distance is the distance between center points of each sample taken of the ground. In other words, the GSD is how big each pixel is on the ground.
