Welcome to Daddy Ball, an in depth look at the issue of parent coaches in youth sports. There are a ton of warnings from fellow parents regarding parent coaches and the problems that can arise from this situation, but I wanted to see how much of an issue this really was and if it was something to really be concerned about.
In the second episode of Daddy Ball, we sit down with Robbie who offers his views from both sides of this topic. On one hand his son plays for a paid coach team in a relatively new organization, and after some evaluations and tryouts trusted his gut and went with this particular coach with this new organization.
Robbie also coaches a league team, and is hyper aware of the potential issues that could come up, so in all likelihood is too hard on his son to avoid any conflicts.
This is a fantastic situation where we get to know a coach who is aware of what is being said out there and does his very best to help everyone on the field develop a love for the game, rather than worrying about who is playing where and how much playing time they are getting.
