Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal stated that with the new concession agreement, operators will be able to use their own infrastructure, saying, "We can collaborate with other industry stakeholders on the services provided through our infrastructure in this manner."
Türk Telekom's concession agreement has been extended for 25 years. The fixed services concession has been renewed until 2050 through an agreement between the Information and Communication Technologies Authority and Türk Telekom.
According to the new concession agreement, Türk Telekom will pay $3 billion, including VAT, as a concession fee. It will also invest $17 billion.
At a press conference, Türk Telekom CEO Ümit Önal stated that the new concession agreement will contribute $20 billion to Turkey.
Highlights from Önal's statements include:
"As of today, we have reached 506,000 kilometers of fiber network length. Our average connection speed is now 383 Mbps. The increase in the number of fiber-optic base stations will be significant in the transition to 5G.
Türk Telekom's concession agreement has been extended for 25 years: $3 billion payment, $17 billion investment!
With this renewed concession, we will make uninterrupted investments in the long term. We will invest heavily in fiber conversion. We will bring fiber access to 37 million households by 2030.
We signed a concession agreement with a very clearly defined framework. The agreement also oversees data center and cybersecurity investments.
The government has understood and agreed with us at the highest level regarding the disorganization of infrastructure investments. It wouldn't be a surprise if regulations on these issues are introduced in the coming period. We can collaborate with other sector stakeholders on the services to be provided through our infrastructure. Duplicate infrastructure wastes the country's money." It is our duty.
"Those who wish can use our infrastructure"
It is not possible to establish a joint infrastructure company in Turkey. Those who wish can use our infrastructure. In the past, other operators have failed to use our infrastructure efficiently. We expect new regulations regarding infrastructure ownership in the coming days. We are committed to taking further steps towards joint ventures.
We will bring fiber to the doors of 95 percent of households by 2030. The investment-to-revenue ratio is 29 percent. We will maintain a balanced investment/revenue ratio that protects the interests of our investors. The entry of new technologies and players into the market will not affect our motivation.
"No change in dividend policy"
There is no share sale on the agenda, but market conditions and dynamics are different. There is no change in dividend policy. We have made preparations for the financing of investments under the concession agreement.
