ASMR: Why do people watch it? | reporter
ASMR – that stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. There isn't a single, definitive German translation. The ASMR community is booming and is now one of the most successful on YouTube. The videos are all different. There are sound videos where someone crinkles foil, drips water, drums their fingers, strokes fabric, and much more.
Then there are role-playing clips – where YouTubers slip into a role in front of the camera and imitate, for example, a doctor. What's always the same, however, is that they whisper in a soft voice. The goal is to create sounds and noises that, together with the visual stimuli, trigger a sensation known as tingles in the ASMR scene. It's a tingling sensation that usually spreads from the back of the head down the neck to the upper body. Everyone experiences this sensation differently, and its intensity can vary. Reporter Svenja meets Sophia. Under the name "Soph Stardust ASMR,"
Sophia uploads ASMR videos to YouTube three times a week. Svenja is there when Sophia produces a new video for her channel. Afterwards,
Svenja tries filming an ASMR video herself and realizes how difficult it is and how much courage it takes to whisper into the camera.
Then it's off to Berlin. There, Svenja has booked an ASMR spa treatment. Christiane treats her with ASMR triggers, which is intended to help her relax.
