Do you need to email a PDF but the file size is too big? In this video, I show you how to compress PDF file sizes on a Mac for free using the built-in Preview app.

The Problem: The default "Reduce File Size" option in Preview makes your document look terrible and blurry. The Solution: I will show you a hidden setting in the ColorSync Utility that lets you create a custom compression filter so you can shrink the file size while keeping the text and images sharp.

In this video, I cover:

Method 1 (The Basic Way): Using Preview's standard export (Good for text-only docs).

Method 2 (The Pro Way): How to create a "Better Quality" Quartz Filter using ColorSync Utility.

Method 3 (The Online Way): Using a free tool like iLovePDF for instant results.

How to Create a Custom Filter (The "Clear" Way):

Open ColorSync Utility (Cmd + Space to search).

Go to the Filters tab.

Duplicate the "Reduce File Size" filter.

Change "Image Sampling" to Scale 50% (or 75%).

Change "Image Compression" to JPEG with Quality around 50%.

Now, this new option will appear in your Preview Export menu!
