Light a candle of memory: a traditional annual event to remember the tragedy of April 26, 1986.
That day marks the 37th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. And a year after the liberation of the Exclusion Zone from the invaders. Only in our memory, the Polissya region of Ukraine experienced two terrible tragedies.
Chornobyl and war... These two tragedies were caused by totalitarian regimes. This can neither be forgotten nor forgiven. So traditionally at night time, at 1:23 Kyiv time, we light the fire of memory. Wherever you are – remember all the victims of the Chornobyl disaster. Living, dead, unborn. Remember all those who were taken away by this war.
Each catastrophe forces humanity to rethink some part of our existence. The Second World War brought us the concept of "crimes against humanity." Chornobyl brought the idea that a peaceful atom remains so only when treated with the awareness of potential danger.
What conclusions will humanity draw after the current events? It is hard to say. It would seem that in the 21st century, there will be no need to think about such things at all. But now we return to these inevitable thoughts: what next? Our answer, at the minimum, is to do everything so that our contemporaries and descendants always remember the tragedies of the past.
