SolidWorks - Modeling Basics - We will take this moderately complex part design and show you how to model it along with sharing some Tips, Tricks and Traps along the way. We start with a previously generated drawing that you can download (see below) and reference for each step along the way. And each step is listed in the drawing and comes with its Mass Properties such as weight and center of gravity so that you can check your progress. And as a reminder, Mass properties is the tool that SolidWorks uses for certification exams – it’s good to know how to use it.

This video will demonstrate an Offset Block for machining applications – modeling items that will be covered and considered will include the Hole Wizard with options, Section Tool to temporarily cut your model and see and work inside, Cosmetic Thread, dimensioning from an edge of a hidden feature, various sketch relations, fully defined sketches, symmetry, polylines, splines, choose a material, aluminum, origin, midpoint on line, freehand sketch for form – then dimension later, angle dimension, offset sketch entities, use points to move sketch entities, midplane extrusion, watch for pony lines, rename your features, feature fillet later, increase mass property resolution if needed, hole wizard just looking for points – everything else can be used for sketch geometry – use it generously, mirror, symmetric sketch relation, cosmetic thread with options, search command for obscure tools.
