We are privileged to have a true spectacle of nature taking place on our doorstep as an enormous colony of Red-billed quelea is currently nesting 10 minutes from the camp!

Summer is a time of plenty, with many species exploiting the more abundant food by coinciding their breeding with this particular season. One such species is this tiny bird - believed to be the most abundant bird on the planet and known for travelling in flocks numbering in the thousands!

This footage was captured by guide Nerise who went to visit the colony at sunrise and sunset, witnessing not only the queleas themselves, but also seeing hornbills eating eggs out of the nest and an unbelievable array of eagles feasting on the chicks as they attempt to fledge from their nests.

Make sure you have our SOUND ON for an idea of the sheer size of the colony! 🔊
