Grafting vegetables is a fascinating horticultural technique where the top part (scion) of one plant is fused with the root system (rootstock) of another. This method is often used to combine the best traits of both plants, such as disease resistance from the rootstock and superior fruit quality from the scion.

High-pressure sodium lamps are being replaced in many systems. Grafting production under HPS lamps is common in many greenhouses. However light intensity is reduced with time. This causes less uniformity in rooms where some plants get more light than others. This problem along with the light quality can increase elongation, a characteristic that is not desired for grafted transplants.

In addition, HPS lamps increase transpiration which increases irrigation needs and causes edema in some crops like tomatoes.

LED lights can help us to provide better light quality to improve the compactness of transplants and better root development. Also reduces transpiration and leaf temperature. In addition, good quality LEDs lamps offer a longer lifespan and with a good lighting design, you can deliver very uniform light for years!

And of course LEDs consume less energy than HPS
