Hello and welcome back!
Let's discover today which verbs that can only be
followed by the "-ING" form.
That means we cannot say:
"he admitted to tell her": this is incorrect
"he admitted tell her": this is incorrect
We need the "-ING form" or present
participle.
he admitted telling them: this is correct
So that's the only way it works.
All the verbs here in purple plus the list
here in red are the verbs that can be
followed only by the "-ING" form.
There might be other verbs.
But that's the short list that we have compiled for you today.
So listen to the examples.
to admit
to avoid
to consider
to deny
to enjoy
to finish
to keep
to mention
to mind
to practise
Now here "PRACTISE" is spelt with an "-S".
In British English we spell the verb
"PRACTISE" with an "S"
And there is "PRACTICE". This is the noun, spelled with a "C"
In American English: to PRACTICE and PRACTICE.
The noun and the verb are both spelled with a "C".
So this here is British English spelling.
Now here are other verbs which I will read out for you to practise pronunciation.
to anticipate, to appreciate, to complete, to consider
to delay, to deny, to discuss, to dislike,
to miss, to postpone, to quit, to recall,
to recommend, to resent, to resist, to risk,
to stop, to suggest, to tolerate, to understand
