Aberdeen Angus is a brand-name breed and a model representative of beef cattle. Bulls average 800 to 1,000 kg, while cows weigh 550 to 700 kg. Robust and easy-to-care-for, these animals derive their genes from the Galloway and Highland cattle of Britain. They were the primary draft animals in the northeastern counties of Scotland – Aberdeen and Angus.
The main advantage of Angus cattle is their early maturity and high weight gain. However, this is matched by the premium quality and tenderness of their meat, as this beef is particularly prized in the market for its marbling and flavor.
In Kazakhstan, Aberdeen Angus cattle are kept on many large and small farms, in feedlots, and in breeding farms. Among them is the vertically integrated KazBeef holding, which has been raising the Aberdeen Angus breed since 2010.
Also in 2012, the Atameken-Agro agricultural holding acquired 1,300 Aberdeen Angus heifers. This breed is also raised by companies such as Sever Agro-N, Terra, Kolos-firma, KazBeef, Lake Farm, Mambetov i K, and many others.
Many feedlots have implemented North American technologies for year-round outdoor cattle rearing with windbreaks. The Angus Chamber of Kazakhstan also provides support to livestock breeders.
