The first thing you want to do is to click on the “steam” option on the top left side. Then, select “settings”. From here, you will want to select the controller option.
You will see various options to enable controllers for Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch and Generic Controllers. So, go ahead and toggle the controller that you have. In my case, I have a PS4 controller.
Now, I will plug in my controller to my computer using a usb cable. Steam automatically detects my controller. To make sure my controller is working correctly, I can choose the “begin test” button to try out the buttons. Once I know its working, I can close it.
If you want to customize the controller options, click on the “desktop layout”. Next, select “enable steam input”. Then, choose “edit layout”. Here, you can further customize your controls if needed. In my case, I will not be using it because I am playing simple games. Once you are done, close the menu.
Now, go to your game library on steam. Select the game you want to play. Then, right click and choose “properties”. Go to the controller tab. You can change this setting here to “enable steam input” if you have customized it earlier. Otherwise, the game will use the default settings of your controller.
Close this menu and start playing your game. You can now enjoy playing the game using your controller. Thanks for watching!
