Lençóis Maranhenses - Beyond Dunes and Lagoons || Trekking 2023 4K
The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is the most important dune field on the Brazilian coast, the largest in South America, and considered one of the most significant in the world. Formed by enormous sand dunes and crystal-clear freshwater lagoons, it is a protected area of 155,000 hectares, located within the Cerrado biome but showing strong influences from the Caatinga and Amazon biomes, with species common to all three. The towns providing access to the Conservation Unit are Santo Amaro and Barreirinhas; in the latter, it is necessary to cross the Preguiças River. We made the crossing by canoe and began our hike towards Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon). After 3 hours of walking through loose sand and some narrow paths, we managed to get a ride. From Lagoa Azul, we continued towards Lagoa Bonita (Beautiful Lagoon), where we arrived on the second day of our hike. On the third day, we reached the village of Mucambo, where we had the opportunity to experience a little of the way of life of the traditional people of Lençóis. This was undoubtedly one of the richest experiences we had.
