Do you need to use an RTOS or Kernel in an embedded system?
To RTOS or not to RTOS, that is the question - lots of reasons for and against using an embedded kernel in deterministic real-time systems.
State machines are an option instead of RTOS's as are superloops and interrupts.
I'm sure it's a case by case decision.
