Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, elephant headed son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Festival is celebrated all over India and lasts for 10 days. It starts with installation of Ganesh statues, made from clay by skilled artisans.
The Pandit(priest) symbolically invokes life into the statue by chanting mantras.
On the day of Ganesh Visarjan, the statue is taken through the streets in a procession accompanied with dancing, singing, and fanfare to be immersed in a river or the sea symbolizing a ritual see-off of the Lord.
Ganpati Bappa came our home this year to bless us all.
