The Line 6 POD was introduced in 1999 and turned the guitar amp industry on its ear. It introduced, for the first time to guitar players, amp modeling, cab IRs and the whole concept of portable digital amplifiers. It also spawned a generation of modelling products from Line 6 like the POD Go, HX stomp and the Helix. Competition grew with products like the Kemper Profiler Amp and the Fractal Axe FXIII. But the Line 6 POD 2.0 was a budget alternative to real amplifiers of the time. And pro modellers today are expensive, so that gave way to a whole series of budget amp modellers.
