Amd Dual Graphics – 5 things You Need Before Setup

Sometime back in December 2014 I think I uploaded a Dual graphics tutorial set up vid.

AMD Dual Graphics - How to set up - Complete Tutorial
   • AMD Dual Graphics Settings | How To Setup ...

Back then the intention was purely to help you guys out since there was very little info on dual graphics setup. Also I was never intending to be doing content creation, so the video is really of poor quality, and around 15 minutes long. Still I have had tons of questions and request on that topic and a few things have changed since , so I will be redoing a better version of it.

No. 1 – Dual Graphics only works with specific AMD APUs (Not Intel) and their recommended Discrete Graphics Card pairing

For eg you cannot pair an A10 7850k with an R9 280 thinking it will give you dual graphics performance

For more details you can do one of the following 3 things:

A go to AMD's own website

A - AMD’s official website link to check out if you can achieve dual graphics with your APU/GPU combo

http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/...

B - You can also check this second link for other recommended known pairing which work

http://www.cpu-world.com/info/AMD/Rec...

C – You can also check at the back of the CPU box if you can get hold of it which will detail the exact GPU’s for your APU.

Show the A8 6500 eg…

No 2 - Dual Graphics does not mean double performance; i.e you will not jump form 30 fps to 60 fps. It only means a % boost in fps which will vary according to your mileage.

Consequently if max fps power is your thing then you should really consider a separate CPU and Graphics Card

Linustechtips and jayztwocents did are a couple of vids with benchmarks to help you decide whether dual graphics is for you

No 3 – You need 2 Ram sticks in dual channel configuration, or Four Ram sticks for Dual Graphics to work. It will not work with a single stick, regardless of amount of RAM, despite what some people are claiming without proof.

Also the speed is important, if you can afford higher RAM speeds of 1866mhz or above, the better, but beware of diminishing return of really high speed RAM, like the 2400mhz versions

No 4 – Make sure that your motherboard does support dual graphics. If you are using popular name brands like Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, or AsRock then chances are they should support dual graphics, but its best to check before you venture. The best place would be to look at the manual for your specific motherboard.

And finally No 5 – , at the time of recording, I’m using AMD Catalyst Control Center 13.25-131116a-165257C on Windows 7 64 bit

Its possible that AMD has not included Dual Graphics Support in their new Radeon Software Crimson Edition Driver.

Also I have not yet tested this on Windows 8.1 or the latest Windows 10.

I’ve set up to be able to do just that, soon, If you want to see that do your thing down below, before you go.

Thank you so much for watching. This was Ash from Healmypc. Until next time...Peace out!
