Ethereum Hard Fork 2019: Everything You Need to Know
Are we back in Constantinople? We will be on January 16th, when Ethereum updates the network in the grand debate between GPU vs ASIC vs Proof of Stake. ProgPOW coming from Vitalik Buterin as a baby step on the way to the Casper upgrade coming later this year or in early 2020.
In the meantime, the path to smart contract supremacy has been contentious with the creation of Ethereum Classic, Classic Vision and NOWA blockchains over the course of just about two years.
The new Constantinople upgrade seeks to keep out ASIC mining and give the GPU folks a downgrade in block rewards from 3 to 2, and there has been a whole bunch of bickering over the emission rate vs the reward structure vs decentralization concerns.
All the while, Ethereum claims that they will improve speed, fees and overall performance, but the point still remains: Vitalik Buterin is the single point of failure for ETH.
Matthew covers the technical analysis of the charts, and why it's unwise to buy into the strength at these levels, but also points out that volume and other indicators are cautiously bullish in the short term.
