A cold afternoon on Christmas break is a great time to get outdoors and get some of that energy worked out! Momma needs a break and dad needs some wood.

For us, teaching them to be around dangerous work and using dangerous tools is all about proper exposure and incremental risk. Their own maturity dictates when they can do it solo.
I was using a chainsaw at 12. They won't be doing that, but can try it out with dad.
Splitting and tossing wood in the trailer? Oh yeah.
