St. John's wort: contraindications and side effects
Do not take St. John's wort during pregnancy! It may cause skin sensitivity to sunlight, and for this reason, avoid sunlight during treatment. Consult your doctor before starting treatment with St. John's wort because it interacts with certain medications and substances: over-the-counter cold medicines; alcohol; antidepressants; tamoxifen; anti-HIV medications; digoxin; theophylline; oral contraceptives. St. John's wort can cause an increase in blood pressure if taken at the same time as ephedra-based medications. Do not use St. John's wort to treat depression (a very serious illness that requires medical attention).
