You can ignore the built-in zoom in Google Docs and use your browser zoom instead to make everything bigger or smaller.
With your document open, hold down Ctrl on Windows or ⌘ (Command) on macOS.
While keeping the key pressed, hit + to increase the zoom level of the entire page.
Press – to reduce the browser zoom.
To return to the default size, press Ctrl + 0 or ⌘ + 0.
This changes the zoom of the whole tab, not just the document, but it’s a very quick way to adjust the view without opening any menus.
