Atari 2600 Capacitor Kit Install & Repair – Better Colors Fixed!
In this video, I install a full capacitor kit from Console5 on my Atari 2600 (Revision 9 board) to fix display issues and clean up the colors.
I desolder and replace the old caps, swap out the 7805 voltage regulator, clean the heat sink, and reflow solder on ports and switches. This builds on a previous repair where I fixed a bad RIOT chip (link below).
After the cap kit, I test with classic games like Pitfall, Frogger, football, and Demon Attack. Colors look much better, though some ghosting remains—planning an AV mod next!If you're restoring a vintage Atari 2600, this step-by-step should help.
