Here are the steps to create a timeline in Google Docs:
1. Introduction
Hi there! In this short video, I will show you how to make a timeline in Google Docs like this one here. Let's dive into it!
2. *Change Page Orientation*
First, change the page from portrait to landscape by going to File - Page setup - Landscape.
3. Open the Drawing Tool
To create the timeline, we need to use the drawing tool. Go to Insert - Drawing - + New.
4. Create the Main Timeline
This will open a canvas where we can build the timeline. Click on the Line button and then select Arrow.
Drag your main timeline horizontally across the canvas. Make sure it's nice and straight with arrows at both ends.
Adjust the thickness to 4 pixels for better visibility.
5. Add Stages Along the Timeline
To create stages along the timeline, use the Text box. Click on it, drag it, and type "Jan" for January.
Adjust the size to 10 and center justify it.
To copy this for February, use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, then drag it to the next position and type "February."
Repeat this process for the rest of the timeline.
6. Add Time Points
To add a time point, click on the Line tool and drag it down from the timeline to February. Keep it straight and level.
Use the text box again to add labels like "Idea generation," make it size 10, and center justify it.
To create another time point, select the existing timeline and text, use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, and drag them to the next position.
Label this one as "Idea selection."
7. Enhance Your Timeline with Images
You can also add images to enhance your timeline. Click on the Image button, search for one, and insert it.
For further edits, double-click on the timeline to return to the canvas mode. You can add time points below the timeline by copying and pasting elements and adjusting their positions.
8. Additional Adjustments
You can change the color of any text. For example, select the text and make it green or red.
Ensure proper alignment by enabling Snap to guides in the Actions menu.
For central positioning, use horizontal and vertical guides. Go to Action - Guides - Add vertical guide or Add horizontal guide.
